Good news for Apple TV owners, the Apple has released their newest firmware revision for the device. Dubbed “Take 2“, the Apple TV firmware is expected to bring new life into an almost forgotten system. So what features will you be receiving upon update?

  • Movie Rentals – Just like the iTunes service
  • Flickr – Post and view your pictures without using a computer
  • .Mac Support – The same functionality .Mac provides on your computer
  • Standalone Apple TV – You no longer need to connect the Apple TV to your computer for it to work

I feel that Apple TV Take 2 entice more people to give this device a shot. Considering the fact that you no longer have to get off your couch to rent a movie sounds like a decent enough reason to buy this device. But when you consider that you can also stream content from your computer through the Apple TV, it makes it a lot easier to watch those movies that you have obtained legally and have stored on your hard drive.

If modding is your thing, the Apple TV mod community is fairly extensive as well. They provide solutions that will allow you to load OS X on the device or even make it into a dvr. Either way, it’s definitely worth a look.
