A fresh view at customizable keyboard

Customization became a strong fetish in today’s gadget industry. People are not satisfied anymore with usual devices. They need something that could be changed in the way they want, something that can satisfy their wishes and needs. So it’s no surprise that lots of customizable PC accessories appeared on market.

One of the most useful customizable gadgets was Optimus Maximus, a PC keyboard with led screens on each button (they change displaying images depending on current layout), designed by famous Russian designer Artemiy Lebedev. It looks like that now we’ve got the first serious alternative for it – Ergodex DX1 Input System

Ergodex DX 1 Input System

DX1 consists of three parts – the main pad, removable transparent tray and keys. The keys could be positioned anywhere on tray surface, allowing user to contour their position to the shape of his hand. Keys have an adhesive surface that allows them to be firmly attached to the Tray. Every key can act like usual keyboard key or execute predefined macros – you can configure them by special software that comes with it:

The only, but rather serious disadvantage is that there’s only 25 keys – this means that you can’t use it instead of regular keyboard, only as an addition to it. This fact makes it more interesting for gamers and task-oriented professionals, rather than office staff. But I guess that lots of other adoptions could be invented.

Ergodex DX1 package contains main pad, tray, 25 keys, blank and preprinted label sheets, quick start guide, installation CD and is sold for approximately $150.
