Announced early this December, SEGA Toys and brainwave signal processing company NeuroSky are teaming up to develop innovative, next generation toys and other entertainment products. The two companies have been talking since early 2007, but the announcement was officially made on December 10th.

Engineers at NeuroSky have been developing “wearable” brain wave-reading products, toys and video games since 2004. One of their most impressive and recently demonstrated toys is a Darth Vader costume, where inside the helmet is a brainwave reading device that rests on the user’s forehead.

NeuroSky Equipped with a full Vader suit and red light saber, the sensor inside the mask sends signals to a wireless receiver inside the saber to illuminate it when the user is concentrating. If the user thinks specifically to keep it lit, it says lit. If the user thinks to shut the light off, or if the user’s mind wanders, the saber shuts off. The demonstration, while basic and incredibly gimmicky, is only a precursor to the more sophisticated devices NeuroSky says they are working on. NeuroSky says teaming with SEGA Toys will allow them to bring their ThingGear bio-sensing technology to more possibilities with SEGA’s creative and innovative capacity. This is a real geeky time killer! Inspired by old Japanese kid’s game and made by Brando Toys these robo-beetles have nice chances to become very popular among widest arrange of people (especially always bored office staff). All you need is to buy a pair of these tiny remote-controlled monsters, make some kind of fighting ring and find opponent who will control one of them. Let the fight begin!

As you see from this video, these beetles have 4 ways move and a battle function to lift up your opponent’s beetle, they are extremely flexible in their moves, very close to their real prototypes. You can invent your own rules – the goal of the battle could be to flip opponent’s beetle upside down, or to push him out of the fighting ring.

Beetles are sold at price $44.50 for each and shipped worldwide. Every package contains one Battle Beetle, dual channels radio remote controller with built-in recharge station and a battle practice target (non-robotic model).

New transformer stuff is hitting the stores. Following a successful movie the transformer hype is taking over the world. The high-tech realization of the cult animated series established the bots as some kind of technical icon. Everyone is still shocked by the huge processor time spent on the rendering of the “most of them came to kill us, but some of them came to save us” robots and by the animations. So Hasbro is giving more heat with new toys to a new part of animated adventures. Some of them look awesome like this dude.

Some not so cool.

But in general it is cool to upgrade your working place with such imaginary piece of robotics even if you are not a transformer fan. I myself would rather prefer something like the evil dudes from 40k. Like this awesome guy.
